Through Oct. 28, every time you ride the INSPIRE vehicle option, Uber will donate $1 to Special Olympics Oregon.

The partnership was launched at a press conference today at Providence Park which will host the Fall State Games on Nov. 21-22. Uber was joined by SOOR CEO Margie Hunt, SOOR athlete Katie Dunn, SOOR Board Chair Kerry Tymchuck and the President of the Portland Timbers for this announcement.

SOOR anticipates more than 600 athletes, 250 coaches and 300 volunteers will participate in the upcoming games.

One athlete’s story
Katie Dunn has been a Special Olympics athlete for more 36 years. She participates because it gives her a chance to “be happy, have fun and be with friends”–but access to transportation is something that can cause distress for Special Olympics athletes. This video (here) captures her story of being an athlete and using the Uber app as a reliable transportation option.

Over the next few months, Uber will follow athletes along their journey to the Fall State Games and holding training sessions with athletes, coaches and families to show how Uber can help provide a safe, reliable option to get from place to place–whether it’s a ride home from practice or a ride to work in the morning. We’ll also be sharing products like uberASSIST and increased UberWAV options in Portland — options for riders who may want an extra hand or a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle.
